Do you ever spend time wondering when is life going to get good?
When am I going to experience the fullness that life has to offer? When am I going to truly be happy? When am I going to feel fulfilled in my days?
These are big questions I know, and yet for many of us, our mind tends to wander to questions like this. Is this really it for my life? Is there more? Who am I meant to be?
Well maybe the answer to these questions is in having a right perspective of who we are and what we were created for.
As I have grown closer to God and have been able to see His heart more clearly, I see our God is all about serving the mission field. This entire world is His mission field. Everything He does is to serve those who seek Him and place their trust in Him.
Think about it, if we’re afraid or anxious and we pray, He offers us peace and calm. If we are weak and weary He offers us strength and rest. If we don’t know what to do, He offers us wisdom and direction. If we are sick, He brings comfort and healing. If we need an encouraging word, doesn’t He always send someone with just the right words we needed to hear in that moment? When we stumble and slip back into destructive patterns, He picks us up, dusts us off, reminds us who we are in Christ and points us in the right direction once again. Even when we need a swift kick in the pants, doesn’t our God lovingly, gracefully correct us and remind us He has a future filled with hope as we follow Him.
Our God opens doors we could never open in our own ability. He pours out His favor upon the faithful in countless ways, providing for our every need and even exceeding our needs. Our God also shuts doors we might not have the courage or strength to shut on our own, so that we are able to follow His path that leads to abundant life, the best life, He has ordained for each of us.
Ephesians 3:20 NIV states, Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,
There is nothing God can’t do. His ways are infinitely higher then our ways. His thoughts far beyond anything we can ever come up with. What this means is, there is nothing we can’t bring before our God that He can’t or won’t help us with.
Our God is a servant God who delights in caring for and blessing His children who love Him.
Hebrews 4:16 NLT, So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
So how does this apply to those heavy questions weighing around in your mind?
Maybe this Scripture will help:
Genesis 1:26 NIV, Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness,”
If our God has a servant heart, then that means you and I also have a servant heart.
We were created in His likeness to serve others, just as He serves others.
We were created in His likeness to love others, just as He does. We were created in His likeness to give generously of ourselves to the good and well-being of others, just as God does. We are created in His likeness to be in tune to the needs of others and meet those needs, just as our Father does. We are created in His likeness, to put the cares of others above ourselves. This doesn’t mean we don’t take care of ourselves; it means we do not become self-absorbed.
This means we do not search for the fullness in life by only living out our wants. I can promise you will never feel satisfied if you only fill yourself; you will always search for something more. You will always wonder what else is there. Something will be missing. Why?
Because we are created in God’s image, and our God is all about serving others.
If you wonder, can life get any better then what it is now-the answer is YES! Go serve somewhere.
If you wonder, is this all there is to life, is there anything more? The answer is YES! Get involved with serving a group of people in need.
If you wonder, if you can ever truly be happy-the answer is YES you can! You will find lasting joy as you serve.
The greatest fulfillment you will ever feel is when you give generously of yourself to help others and never get paid for it. Then you will know the heart of the God we serve.
If you don’t know where to begin, just ask God to show you. He already has a plan for your life and I promise it involves service. Are you ready to get on board with His plan and see the greatness He has ordained for you? Get involved with your local church and put your talents to use as a blessing. The Church is not many buildings in each community, it is God’s people who give of themselves to bring His Good News of hope and salvation to the world around them.
God asked the prophet Isaiah, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”
Let our response be the same as Isaiah’s when he eagerly replied, “Here I am. Send me!”
God has an amazingly full, rewarding, rich life already planned for you, and the best part is, it’s not about YOU at all. It’s about all the others you will bless and help because of the gifts He has placed within you to share.
When we get this and embrace the reality, that we are created to serve, is when we truly start living.
Father God, I thank you today for the countless ways you faithfully serve me. You provide my every need. You watch over me so thoughtfully. You know my needs and work them out, even before I know what I need. You are so good to me. What an honor and joy to remember I have been made to be like You. I desire to have a heart like Yours, filled with grace, love, compassion and a willingness to help others. Lord if I need softening in my heart today, I ask you to remove any part of stone and coldness in my heart, and replace it with Your tenderness and kindness. Lord if I have been selfish and self-absorbed forgive me. Give me new eyes to see others around me and how I might bless them. If I have just been wandering through life without any direction Lord, I ask You Father to give me direction. Light my path and show me what You have planned for me. I know following You is where I will find the greatest fulfillment and joy in life, for I was made to be like You, and You are filled with joy and purpose. Thank you Lord for reminding me who I am in Jesus, and what I was made for-to serve my brothers and sisters. Thank You for giving me great purpose. In Your Son’s most holy name Jesus, I pray. Amen.
