ย Ruth 1: 1-11, 14 NIVย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย

ย In the days when the judges ruled,ย there was a famine in the land.ย So a man from Bethlehem in Judah,ย together with his wife and two sons, went to live for a whileย in the country of Moab.ย 2ย The manโ€™s name was Elimelek,ย his wifeโ€™s name was Naomi, and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and Kilion.ย They were Ephrathitesย from Bethlehem,ย Judah. And they went to Moab and lived there. 3ย Now Elimelek, Naomiโ€™s husband, died, and she was left with her two sons.ย 4ย They married Moabite women,ย one named Orpah and the other Ruth.ย After they had lived there about ten years,ย 5ย both Mahlon and Kilionย also died,ย and Naomi was left without her two sons and her husband. 6ย When Naomi heard in Moabย that theย Lordย had come to the aid of his peopleย by providing foodย for them, she and her daughters-in-lawย prepared to return home from there.ย 7ย With her two daughters-in-law she left the place where she had been living and set out on the road that would take them back to the land of Judah. 8ย Then Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, โ€œGo back, each of you, to your motherโ€™s home.ย May theย Lordย show you kindness,ย as you have shown kindness to your dead husbandsย and to me.ย 9ย May theย Lordย grant that each of you will find restย in the home of another husband.โ€ Then she kissedย them goodbye and they wept aloudย 10ย and said to her, โ€œWe will go back with you to your people.โ€ 11ย But Naomi said, โ€œReturn home, my daughters. Why would you come with me? Am I going to have any more sons, who could become your husbands?ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย

Deuteronomy 7: 3-4

3ย Do not intermarry with them.ย Do not give your daughters to their sons or take their daughters for your sons,ย 4ย for they will turn your children away from following me to serve other gods,ย and theย Lordโ€™s anger will burn against you and will quickly destroyย you.ย

Deuteronomy 7:12-13

12ย If you pay attention to these laws and are careful to follow them, then theย Lordย your God will keep his covenant of love with you, as he swore to your ancestors.ย 13ย He will love you and bless youย and increase your numbers.ย He will bless the fruit of your womb,ย the crops of your landโ€”your grain, new wineย and olive oilโ€”the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks in the land he swore to your ancestors to give you.
