Psalm 55:22 (NLT)
Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you.
He will not permit the godly to slip and fall.
There are so many scriptures about giving all our cares to God and trusting in Him for the proper resolution. We pray for God to take our cares from us, to rescue us in our times of trouble, to bring us hope when we are desperate…yet we continue to pick those worries up time and time again don’t we?
Why do we do that? Why if we give something to God to handle, do we take it back from Him?
Does worrying and stewing over our circumstance give us a false sense of control? Do we feel we are the only ones who truly know how to best handle our situations-better than God? Are we afraid that if we truly let go and let God handle it, that we failed or that we didn’t do all we could have?
God’s Word is pretty clear that we as His children are not to worry and that we are to cast all anxiety on Him. Why? Because He cares for us; He loves us.
1 Peter 5:7 clearly says, Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
God knows that carrying the weight of the world on our shoulders is not healthy, and it will eat away at us. Worry, anxiety, and fear will steal all our joy, will destroy us physically and mentally, and will keep us from walking in the peace of Christ.
God sent His one and only son to die on a cross for our sins. For you and me. Jesus paid the ultimate price, not so we could remain living in misery and torture. No! He died and rose again so we could be free from our sins that bind us; free to live a life of eternal hope and joy in Him!
We in turn must receive that gift of freedom and salvation. We have to allow a transformation to happen in our hearts and minds that sets us free from the bondage we once had to fear, worry, and anxiety. We have to believe our God is who He says He is, and that His promises are true. Every single one of them.
As we believe God is who He says He is, and that His promises are true, we can believe the key scripture in this week’s devotional-we can give our burdens to the Lord and He will take care of us. We can believe His promise that He will not let the godly (those that follow His ways and trust in Him) slip and fall.
You see, it’s really that simple of a choice. Do you believe God is God Almighty? Do you believe He is Lord of all creation? Do you believe His promises are true?
If your answer is yes, then you need to trust that God will do what He says He will do. You need to take steps of faith to give your cares to God and know He will handle it. You need to leave it in His hands and not try to take it back because He isn’t acting quick enough, or doesn’t appear to be handling it as you instructed Him to. You need to remember He is God, and you are not. His ways are much higher than your ways, and His thoughts are much higher than your thoughts.
If your answer is no to the questions asked above, then that offers a wonderful opportunity for you to talk with God and find out why and where you doubt. How well do you know God? Might that be a starting point for you to spend more time in His Word getting to know Him and learn more about His promises? Can you look back to see where He has shown up in your life to rescue you as you called on His name? Do you doubt He will do it again? You could also talk with your pastor or another spiritual confidant to figure out what is missing for you to believe God is who He says He is. Just make sure to align all feedback you receive to the Word of God for your source of truth.
As we choose to follow God’s ways, and accept Jesus as our savior, we are given a new mind-that of Christ Himself.
Ephesians 4: 22-24 (NLT) reminds us, 22 throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception.23 Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes.24 Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.
When anxiety and fear try to get the best of you, remember who you are. You are a child of God whom He dearly loves. You are an heir with Christ and have access to His mind-meaning His wisdom, His self-control, His strength, and His victory over attacks from the enemy.
God calls us to give our cares to Him, and assures us He will care for us. May we humbly obey His commands and trust Him in the outcome. May we not try to take our worries back from God. Taking matters back into our hands only tells God we don’t fully trust Him, we don’t believe He is God Almighty, we don’t believe He really will or can care for us, and we don’t believe His promises are true.
God is faithful and true. Not one of His promises have ever or will ever fail.
Lighten your load, give your burdens to God, and let Him take care of them. He needs you healthy, strong, and full of His joy so you be a bright light to those in need around you! Be a testimony to others about how faithful our God is to tend to every care we have. Trust Him today, and see how He will show up in your life.
Lord you are my God. Forgive me today for doubting in you for whatever reason. I know you are God and capable of anything, far beyond what I can comprehend. I know you love me and I’m so grateful for your love. I know you are for me God, and you desire good for my life. Yet I allow my circumstances to be my guide instead of what I know to be true about who you are. Please forgive me as I do that and help me to remember what I know to be true. Help me to speak your truth and your promises over my situation God when I am afraid or worried. Lord today I bring my cares (insert your specific concern,) and I lay it at your feet. I am giving it to you today God as I know you will take care of it far better than I can on my own. I need to release myself from this worry and fear so I may continue to live in your joy and hope. Please help me to let go and not pick it back up again. I give it to you once and for all. Lord it is such a relief to not have to worry about this issue any longer and to entrust it into your loving hands. I thank you for working all things for my good and for the good of those I love. Help me always remember who I am to you God, and who you are to me. In your son’s most precious name Jesus, I pray. Amen.
May you let go and let God today, and always.
Love God and love others deeply, and be blessed in return!
